The Children's Development Center

 

The aim of the Vedapatti project is described in a policy paper from the Diocese.

 

The most important elements are:

  • The aim of the project is to increase the quality of life of rural, poor and vulnerable children by means of care, education and skill development that will prepare them for life in society;

  • The Centre has a capacity of 100 children (50 boys and 50 girls) from 6 to 18 years.

  • 20 children will follow primary school, 50 children the lower level of secondary school and 30 children the upper level of secondary school;

  • The children will go to school in the Punitha Valanar Primary and Higher Secondary School;

  • The target group exists of (semi-) orphans, and poor children; children of migrants, neglected children, disabled children, dalit children and drop-outs.

  • The following activities are identified:

    • Split of the building in a part for boys and one for girls;

    • Repair and renovation, a/o painting;

    • Installation of a generator for production of power;

    • Purchase of bed linen, furniture (cupboards, tables, chairs etc.);

    • Building up a library including facilities;

    • Upgrade of kitchen and eating facilities;

    • Installation of a water purification plant;

    • Purchase of an audio-visual installation and recreation materials;

    • Education facilities;

    • Purchase of a computer and a printer

The total costs have been estimated at EUR 66.000 including a contribution for the exploitation costs for 2017,2018 and 2019. The project also provides for the raising of alternative resources by the Diocese.
